YouTube Restriction Checker

What is it?

A Chrome extension that checks for video restrictions.

Most useful for sharing YouTube videos with larger audiences. It displays an icon in the address bar, telling you whether the current video is restricted from viewing in any way. Clicking on the icon tells you the details.

It currently checks for:

  • Geographic restrictions
  • Embed restrictions
  • Age restrictions

Download & Install

Get it from the Google Webstore.

Or click right here to use our live website without installing anything. Right now it has all the same features (and some extra!) but works with Firefox and Internet Explorer as well. And it checks Vimeo videos, too!

If a video has a restriction, a single character appears beneath the icon. This is what each character stands for:

  • [C] Country restriction: Video is blocked in certain countries.
  • [E] Embed restriction: Video cannot be embedded on other websites.
  • [A] Age restriction: Viewer must be 18 years old and logged in to watch the video.
